What kind of innovations have the potential combat poverty at the base of the economic pyramid in an economically profitable way? What are their sustainability implications? At the Sustainable Innovations at the Base of the Pyramid conference speakers and delegates from business, academia, NGOs and the public sector discussed socially and ecologically sustainable innovations at the underprivileged markets. Among others, inspirational examples were introduced by organizations such as Nokia, GrameenPhone, ABB, UNDP and Phillips Design, that has just received the IDEA 2008 award of IDSA for an innovation co-designed with users at the BOP.
