Aalto University School of Economics' popularity as a place of study continues to grow

This year the Aalto University School of Economics was once again Finland's most sought-after places of study for economics. In the joint application period 3,344 first-time applicants, or one-third of all applicants, sought admission for a Master's degree in business administration. The number of applicants increased over last year by approximately 13.5%. Gaining admission to the School of Economics was not easy, as the grade point average required for admission was the highest of all universities.

In the 2010 joint application period a total of 355 new students were accepted to the Aalto University School of Economics in Helsinki for all basic level degree programs. They were admitted to earn their Bachelor's degree (BSc) and Master's degree (MSc).

306 new students gained admission on the basis of their entrance exam. All students admitted listed the Aalto University School of Economics as their first choice of school.

10 applicants were admitted to the Helsinki Campus for degree studies on the basis of studies completed at an open university.

A total of 38 students were admitted on the basis of the international SAT Reasoning test, which measures verbal and mathematical skills. Applicants are required to have a combined SAT score of no less than 1,330. This is a high minimum requirement by international standards.

Aleksi Korpinen was admitted to the School of Economics through the Viksu science competition organised by the Academy of Finland. Korpinen, who completed his upper secondary studies at the Tietotie Upper Secondary School/Päivölä Mathematics Programme, submitted an entry that examined abnormal returns in quarterly reports at various phases of the economic cycle.

81 new students were admitted to the School of Economics' Campus in Mikkeli to earn their Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (BScBA). Mikkeli received a total of 916 applications from 60 different countries.

Earlier in the spring, an additional 236 students were admitted directly to the School to earn their Master's degree in Business Administration. These students had already completed the required studies at a university or university of applied sciences. There were a total of 1,104 applicants. The number of applicants nearly tripled over the last year, at which time 400 applications were submitted.
