TEACHING AND EXAMINATIONS IN 2009-10
The academic year begins on 1 August and ends on 31 July. The Opening Ceremony of the Aalto university ( including HSE) will take place on Tuesday, September 1, 2009. Please, notice that the students and the personnel of the three universities that is Helsinki School of Economics, Helsinki University of Technology and Helsinki University of Art and Design will start at Aalto university on January 1, 2010.

Spring term 2010

The first half: Mon January 11 – Fri February 26, 2010

Mid term examination week*: Mon March 1 – Fri March 5, 2010 (no teaching)
Easter holiday*: Thu April 1 – Wed April 7, 2010 (no teaching)
Examination term: Mon May 3 – Fri May 28, 2010
No classes will be given during the examination terms and the Easter holiday. Please note that the intensive courses may go on during the mid term examination weeks.
Exceptions in teaching and student services:
- No classes, examinations or consultation hours will take place on the preceding days of holidays, feast days and May Day after 16 hrs.
- No classes on the ARENA Fair day on November 11, 2009 if not specially agreed with the teacher
- No teaching on September 1, 2009 because of the opening ceremony of the academic year 2009-2010

Teaching: Mon September 6 – Fri December 10, 2010
1st teaching period: Mon September 6 – Fri October 22, 2010 - 7 weeks
2nd teaching period: Mon November 1 – Fri December 10, 2010 - 6 weeks
Examinations:
1st examination period: Mon August 23 - Fri September 3.
2nd examination period: Mon October 25 - Fri October 29
3rd examination period: Sat December 11 - Wednesday December 22 (continues on January 2010)
Spring term 2011
Teaching: Mon January 17 – Fri May 13, 2011
3 rd teaching period: Mon January 17 – Fri March 4, 2011 -- 7 weeks
4 th teaching period: Mon March 14 – Wed April 20 AND Mon May 2 - Fri May 13, 2011 -8 weeks
Examinations:
4th examination period: Mon January 3 - Fri January 14, 2011
5th examination period: Mon March 7 - Fri March 11, 2011
6th examination period: Mon May 16 - Fri May 27, 2011
Easter Holiday:
April 21 - May 1, 2011, no teaching
- No classes will be given during the 2nd and 5th examination periods.
- No classes on the ARENA Fair day on November 10, 2010 if not spefically agreed with the teacher
Teaching hours
The classes will be given according to the following schedule:
8:00-9:30
10:00-11:30
11:30-12:15 lunch break
12:15-13:45
14:15-15:45
16:15-17:45 etc. Until midday the classes start sharp on the hour and in the afternoons a quarter past. The duration of a class is usually one and a half hours.
